Jesus is:

  • Son of God and Son of Mary

Jesus, the first-born son of Mary, was (and is) the Son of God

The angel Gabriel said so ...

How will this be, Mary asked the angel, since I am a virgin? The angel answered, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. (Luke 1:26-35)

Jesus said so ...

Jesus said to them, My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working. For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. (John 5:17-18)

God said so ...

When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased. (Luke 3:21-22

  • God made flesh: he was with God in the beginning, and he was God; about 2000 years ago he was born of a human mother; she conceived him not by a human father, but by the power of God overshadowing her, so that he was the Son of God

Jesus is from the beginning

Jesus is the 'Word' who was with God, and who was God in the beginning, and who became flesh ... that is, he became a man ...

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning ... The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:1, 12)

Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death - that is, the devil - and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. (Hebrews 2:14-15)

  • the only go-between God and mankind

Jesus, the mediator

Jesus is the only go-between, the only mediator, between us and God ...

For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5)

You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant(Hebrews 12:23-24)

  • the only Saviour of sinners, for his death on the cross makes peace between God and all those people who trust him

Jesus Saviour

Jesus is the only Saviour of sinners ...

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:1)

By his death on the cross Jesus makes peace between God and all those people who trust him ...

There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished--he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. (Romans 3:22-26)

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:1)
